The fourth Annual John D. Mineck DBC Junior Cup is slated for September 5-6 at the Boston Golf Club in Hingham in conjunction with the Deutsche Bank Championship. Puma Open Boston 2009

Due to my uber insane sched I was only able to swing by the Puma Open Boston, held this past Friday afternoon at the Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth, for the latter half of the event. Upon my arrival, I thought I'd walked into a fashion shoot! Lets just say the golfers who participate in the Puma Opens really take their Puma golf gear seriously! Even the employees of the Pinehills Golf Club were donning the latest in Puma attire from head to toe! How do I best describe the Puma Open?'s a mix of extreme golf (zany golf holes) fabulous food and drinks and casino style gambling! The vibe of the Puma Golf Brand is surfing the wave of the new generation in golf which is trendy, fashionable and totally tied into social networking! The kool kats from Puma Golf are all about real time and were shooting video skits, tweeting up a storm on Twitter and using "Social Pix" to upload photos from the partay straight to the Puma Open Facebook Fan Page! The Puma Open Boston was just what this area of New England needed....a swift kick in the khakis! New England golfers tend to be rather "traditional!" The Puma Open 2009 is on a nationwide tour visiting 15 cities. Go to for more info! A big Thank You to all the attentive Puma employees - Matt Handy, Katie Clifford, Heather Bouzan and Ashley Girard as well as Puma Ocean Racing Team Skipper Kenny Read (who BTW just completed the 46,000 mile 'round the world Volvo Ocean Race - taking second place honors - aboard the Puma boat "Il Mostro!") y'all made my night!

Touring Professional Jason Parajeckas

UConn grad Jason Parajeckas turned pro in 2007 and is one of thousands of aspiring touring professionals throughout the country or world for that matter, trying to attain that ticket to the big time - the PGA Tour card. Jason hails from Woburn, MA and his home course while in New England is Pleasant Valley CC in Sutton, MA and during the Winter season it's Bear Lakes CC in West Palm Beach, FL. Jason's mentor is also his father, Paul Parajeckas, who is the Head Golf Professional at Pleasant Valley CC and a highly respected figure within the NEPGA. For as long as he can remember Jason was hanging out playing at the golf course with his Dad. Interestingly enough during the MA State Open Championship this year they were competitors! Jason's record this Summer is far from shabby! He placed 4th in the 2009 Massachusetts State Open, 5th in the 2009 Rhode Island State Open and 9th in the 2009 Providence Open! Jason plans to attend the 2009 PGA Tour Qualifying school this Fall. We wish you well Jason!

Deutsche Bank Championship Media Day

Greg Ball of BZA Public Relations and Deutsche Bank Championship Director Eric Baldwin
I attended the Deutsche Bank Championship Media Day at TPC Boston in Norton yesterday. The weather gods obviously heard my chant for there was a break in the rain and glorious golfin' weather was had all 'round! The format for the outing was Net Ball and we had the opportunity to preview the changes in the course which was tons of fun. I saw lots of friends too! T.J. Auclair from and Alan Segal of WBZ fame, now doin some work on ESPN 890 in Boston and Greg Simeone of Harmon Golf. I even met some new friends! Pat Eastman - a freelance photog and insane scorekeeper (boy does she know her "rules!") was instrumental in leading our team to our third place finish, plus she also won the women's longest drive contest and I have a new Twitter friend - Mike Petraglia from WEEI! He was "tweeting" during the press conference but he claims that he didn't "tweet" while playing his round! His handle on Twitter is "Trags" just in case you wanna follow Boston Sports! The Deutsche Bank Championship is on Twitter as well @ "DBChampionship" so you can follow all the tournament action in real time! During the press conference via telephone with Defending Champ Vijay Singh he was asked about the state of his game and he said "I've taken two weeks off, I've really practiced hard, and physically I'm in good shape. My knee is pretty much 100 percent and there's no excuses there. So I'm just looking forward to going out there for the Bridgestone this week and then the PGA, and then I'm ready for the playoffs. I think I'm going to have a strong finish here coming up these next few events. " Vijay was in a jovial mood and was saying what a great boost Tom Watson's run at the British Open was for all of the guys on tour that thought they may be over the hill! Defending champion Vijay Singh is the only two-time winner in the event's 6 year history (2004 and 2008). The field is comprised of the top 100 players on the FedExCup points list. The Deutsche Bank Championship is the only scheduled Monday finish (Labor Day) on the PGA Tour and is the second of four events in the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. This is also the "greenest" Deutsche Bank Championship yet and is the first PGA Tour event to be certified "carbon neutral." Championship Director Eric Baldwin, BZA Public Relations liaison Greg Ball and TPC Boston General Manager Brad Williams couldn't be any nicer, they created a perfect day for the media! I can't wait for Labor Day Weekend! For more information about the tournament go to
