First Tee of MA wins 7th Annual Golf Channel Invitational

First Tee of Massachusetts team at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia

The proof is in the pudding! The First Tee Program of Massachusetts is becoming quite the "breeding ground" for young local talent! In late October, Joe McCabe, Executive Director of the First Tee Program of Massachusetts, chaperoned his team - made up of Liz LaVerghetta, Cora Bernier, Trevor Bernier and John Beadle - to the 7th Annual Golf Channel Invitational for the First Tee. This was the first year they participated in the event and won! The competition was held at the beautiful Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia on the Mountain View Course (FYI former home to the PGA Tour's Buick Challenge!). A field of 14 teams made up of First Tee Chapters from around the United States competed in this two day event. This Invitational supports the First Tee Chapters nationwide as well as five countries! On Sunday October 25, Team Massachusetts won the Shell Chapter Challenge by 8 stokes and on Monday October 26, they participated in a Pro-Am event that paired one junior in a foresome with corporate sponsors, business executives, CEO's and First Tee personnel for an 18 hole tourney. In our interview, Joe said, "This event gave the kids an opportunity to mix with other First Tee participants from all around the country as well as business executives and share their stories of how the First Tee program has affected their lives in a positive way." The First Tee Program of Massachusetts is housed within the Massachusetts Golf Association at the MGA Links at Mamantapett in Norton, MA.
