The proof is in the pudding! The First Tee Program of Massachusetts is becoming quite the "breeding ground" for young local talent! In late October, Joe McCabe, Executive Director of the First Tee Program of Massachusetts, chaperoned his team - made up of Liz LaVerghetta, Cora Bernier, Trevor Bernier and John Beadle - to the 7th Annual Golf Channel Invitational for the First Tee. This was the first year they participated in the event and won! The competition was held at the beautiful Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia on the Mountain View Course (FYI former home to the PGA Tour's Buick Challenge!). A field of 14 teams made up of First Tee Chapters from around the United States competed in this two day event. This Invitational supports the First Tee Chapters nationwide as well as five countries! On Sunday October 25, Team Massachusetts won the Shell Chapter Challenge by 8 stokes and on Monday October 26, they participated in a Pro-Am event that paired one junior in a foresome with corporate sponsors, business executives, CEO's and First Tee personnel for an 18 hole tourney. In our interview, Joe said, "This event gave the kids an opportunity to mix with other First Tee participants from all around the country as well as business executives and share their stories of how the First Tee program has affected their lives in a positive way." The First Tee Program of Massachusetts is housed within the Massachusetts Golf Association at the MGA Links at Mamantapett in Norton, MA. It's that time of year again in the golf industry of New England when Superintendents "tuck their golf courses in for a long winter's nap!" The Superintendent and crew are literally the backbone of every golf course and work tirelessly year round to maintain and protect their masterpieces from many different factors, mainly weather related! While Patrick Daly may be the President of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of New England he's also a hands on workin' man through his position as Superintendent at the Framingham Country Club. It's Patrick's busiest time of year due to seasonal staff loses and the "winterizing" process needed to assure the course will emerge glorious and in full bloom come springtime but he's got it down to a science! Inside the Ropes.com founder Tom Auclair is a man on a mission! Dubbed "the Ironman" by many on the PGA Tour, Tom has faithfully delivered to his viewers and fans unique candid video interviews of some of the world's best golfers inside the ropes style for over a decade! His sons Kyle, a PGA Tour photog and T.J., an interactive producer for Turner Sports have joined forces with their father over the years to create (as I once heard it put while attending a PGA tour event by a source who shall remain nameless) a sort of PGA Tour Media Mafia! Whatever they're called out there on the road, these 3 Musketeers have got it goin' on for sure! A former professional skier, Tom started out in radio - his show syndicated worldwide to over 1,000 stations. I still say he's the pioneer of what is referred to as the social media/vlogging/blogging sports media of today! Tom's got that techie geek thirst for speed and an entrepreneurial spirit which bodes well for his multi-media empire! Stay tuned cause Tom's got many more tricks up his sleeve in regard to the hottest information technologies and social media yet to hit the market!
